For nearly a century instruction in home economics has been a vital part of Oklahoma State University. In 1900 Maude Gardiner was hired to establish a department of Domestic Economy. Miss Gardiner attracted fifty female students by October of that year. The department continued to grow and in 1909 became a division with six faculty members.
